I joined the Honeywell Group as a management trainee via the Honeywell Excellence Programme (HEP) in October 2010. It was my first job straight out of university and there and then, the journey of my shaping from the young chap that I was, to becoming the emerging business leader that I am today, began.
I have been with the Honeywell Group for over eight years and I have gained a wide breadth of experience from the roles I have assumed in various parts of the finance function during my time, within and outside of the Honeywell Group’s Corporate Office. It has really been an experience, one that I will hold dear for a long, long time to come.
Journey So Far….Career Growth & Development
My time at Honeywell Group has provided both personal and career growth for me. The knowledge from the Honeywell Excellence Programme and the on-the-job training after the HEP has equipped me with a sense of resilience and positivity that I have continuously applied within and outside of the workplace and this has produced undeniable results. There’s a sense of responsibility that being a Honeywell Group person confers on you and it shows in all you do..
Imbibing the Group’s core values of Responsibility beyond ourselves, Integrity, Courage, Excellence and Respect for the Individual has helped me become a better and value-creating individual. I have had to deal with difficult tasks, projects and situations in the roles I have been in and the culture of excellence I have learnt here has spurred me to accomplish our shared set objectives, always.
I have been some what of a nomad during my time at the Group having worked in various finance roles including performance management, corporate finance, financial planning & tax management, internal audit and risk management. My time and knowledge acquired on these roles have shaped me into the complete finance professional that I believe I have become.
Whilst at the Group, I successfully completed two of the three qualifying examinations on my way to becoming an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). I passed my final exams in November 2011 and was inducted by the Institute in November 2014. I was a Subject Prize winner in Advanced Audit and Assurance in the May 2011 diet of the programme simply by applying the knowledge gained from being a member of the Enterprise Control and Compliance team at the Honeywell Group.
In August 2018, I qualified as a CFA charter holder after successfully completing the three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute examinations all at my first attempt, This programme was sponsored by the Group, who refunded all examination fees after completion of the exams.
The Honeywell environment has given me the courage to dream, grow and continuously improve. Honeywell Group continues to develop policies, programmes and avenues that support and inspire its employees to be better people first for themselves and then for the company. It’s no coincidence therefore that ‘Responsibility Beyond Ourselves’ tops our core values. We are a family and If I had a chance to choose again where to start my career, I will choose this family again and again.
Advice for Applicants seeking to join the Group
Honeywell Group is a great place to work, providing a platform of growth for its employees. There are excellent mentors that encourage you to be the best you can in every way not just with their words but by being highly resourceful when needed and sharing their ideas to success. There is a culture and process already in place that takes you from where you are to where you desire to be.
My advice for applicants is that if you are looking to build a sustainable and rewarding career and you have the courage to dream, then joining the Honeywell Group train is a no brainer.
